WINDRUSH 75

Tallawah is a Jamaican patois word that means to be strong, fearless, strong-willed, and not to be underestimated. It is pronounced exactly as it is spelled: /Talla-wa/.

Colin referred to me as the “Tallawah powerhouse” behind the project but the real inspiration were the countless Windrush generation pioneers, and our dear mother, Ethelyn Veronica Adams, pictured here in her passport photo circa late 1950s, on her way to migrate from Jamaica to Britain.

I was especially pleased to have been commissioned by Royal Mail to co-author, with my brother (historian and author of Homecoming: Voices of the Windrush Generation), Colin Grant, the text accompanying their series of commemorative Windrush 75 presentation packs and stamps.
